P1 Driving Restrictions Brief Summary |

NEW LAWS THAT WILL START IN JULY 2007:
- Must have completed 120 hours supervised driving, including 20 hours night driving
- Must have had L-paltes for 12 months
- Must complete 45-minute test including more than 30 minutes driving time on busier main roads with the focus on safety and hazard perception.
- Must display P-plates on the exterior of the car, not inside windows or windscreens
- Can carry only one passenger under 21-years old between 11pm and 5am but some exemptions apply
- Will lose licence automatically if they are caught speeding
- Cannot use a mobile telephone in any way while driving.
P2 Drivers - There are no changes for P2 plate holders except that they, too, must display their plate on the outside of their vehicles.
EXEMPTIONS
- P1 driver exemption apply if:
- -Drivers are over 25 years
- -Drivers are carrying family members
- -Drivers need to carry passengers for work or community activities such as bushfire fighting
- -It is an emergency situation.
